I have known Betty DellaCorte for many years and consider her to be a source of true inspiration: a beacon of sanity in uncertain times. She is a person who has made my life immeasurably better by her willingness to share her experience, strength and hope.
As one of the true pioneers in the field of Domestic Violence, Betty deserves to be heard by the widest possible audience. The insights contained in her book will help all concerned better deal with the challenges facing them, but what makes this book so worthwhile for everyone is Betty's humanity-which shines through on every page. I believe readers will warm to her account of the lost Brooklyn of her youth and her many adventures out in the world before proving to herself that one can, after all, go home again. The heart of her book lies in her courageous struggle to escape an abusive relationship and how she transformed that experience into a lifetime of helping others. In the early years before domestic violence became a pressing national issue, Betty's voice was one of the few voices crying in the wilderness to help the victims. The tale of her struggle to enlighten us all makes for very compelling reading. In fact, it is ESSENTIAL to gain a true understanding of the terrible cycle of domestic violence.
Should be on a "Best Seller" list,

A book of this magnitude needs to be on the best seller list.
It is written with an insight that only comes from many years of experience as a victim of Domestic Violence. The authors descriptive technique allows you to feel and see vividly the emotions that she as well as others in her book have gone through...A need to read book by all individuals who feel that they are alone in this cycle of violence. And also a need to read by those whose cannot believe that such a life exists. All need to read what the authors solutions are for survival.
The most honest revealing book in years,
Josephine Doyle-Schlosser (Seattle, Wa.)
I was not able to put this book down until I completed it.
Betty DellaCorte memoirs of her life growing up in Brooklyn and the abuse she endured in her second marriage took my breath away. The book describes how she gathered those who were going through the same situation, helping them to rise up out of the ashes to create one of the first Womens shelters in the Country. This book was far better than "The Burning Bed", or any book on Domestic Violence that I have read. In her book she shares her Faith in a Higher Power, and how that gave her the strength to restore her life and that of her children.
After reading this book I contacted the Attorney General Office in Phoenix, and the Shelter she created and heard the most glowing stories of what she and the people who worked at the Shelter had done for the community.
Anyone can call their offices and get the same information that I did. This is a must read book....
